The Stagey Fox is run by Amanda Laidler and Amy Walsh. It was born from a flippant idea the two shared when strolling past an empty retail outlet in King’s Cross in Autumn 2015 – “if you could own a retail space, what would you do with it?” Almost simultaneously, they answered that they’d set up a gift and book shop which directed itself specifically at theatrical-types.
And so they did!
Amy herself is a working actress (under the name Amy Gardyne) – a career which will run alongside The Stagey Fox. This synergy will keep the business fresh and current as well as boosting a name for both Amy and the business. Having graduated recently from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Amy is very aware of what theatrical literature is popular and relevant and has her finger on the pulse as far as the national theatre scene is concerned. She has worked in retail throughout her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, in both independent businesses and international, corporate companies.
Amanda fell in love with theatre when she was 15 and her experience covers directing, administration and stage management. She has worked for regional theatres, opera companies, festivals in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and runs a music theatre group for young people.
